- Another first for nations's first HDTV station
WRAL-HD, the first commercial station in the nation to broadcast in High Definition Television (HDTV), has completed a live satellite feed of an Atlantic Coast Conference football game. The game, played September 6, 1997, is the first football game produced in HDTV. The signal was transmitted from the site to a K-2 satellite and then returned to the WRAL-HD transmitter where it was then broadcast live to monitors placed at Wallace Wade Stadium, Duke University, Durham, NC. - DVN and Hisense join force to develop digital TV business in China
DVN Limited, the leading technology services provider of state-of-the-art digital TV broadcast platform is pleased to announce its agreement with Hisense Electric Company Limited to form a strategic alliance to develop nationwide digital TV broadcasting business in the PRC. According to the agreement, DVN shall provide to Hisense the requisite production technology for the manufacturing of digital broadcasting receivers (also known as “set top boxes”); whilst Hisense will utilize its extensive production and sales capability and its advantage as a top market player and R & D leader in consumer electronics area to manufacture and sell the set top boxes designed by DVN. Not only will Hisense be the key producer and sales force, it will also support the finance for all production cost. - FCC eases digital TV transition for consumers
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) today took another step forward in the transition to digital television. The FCC adopted rules for digital “plug and play” cable compatibility, which is a key piece of the digital television puzzle. In a “plug and play” world, consumers can plug their cable directly into their digital TV set without the need of a set-top box. - Mediostream announces a DV-to-MPEG2 real-time software
MedioStream, Inc., today announced Medio CAMpegª, a patent-pending software technology that allows DV camcorder users to go directly from DV into MPEG2 format for video streaming, DVD authoring, archiving or distribution. - Philips Consumer Electronics and Fujitsu to co-operate in development of colour PDP
Philips Consumer Electronics and Fujitsu Limited today announced a joint development agreement covering design and refinement of colour plasma display panels (PDP) used in flat televisions for the consumer market. The agreement strengthens existing co-operation between the two companies in this field and is expected to greatly accelerate the development of the PDP flat TV market. - Directv to add high-definition network signals to its channel lineup
Continuing to expand its high-definition and enhanced digital television programming, DIRECTV , Inc., the nation's leading digital multichannel television service provider, announced today that it plans to offer CBS-HD programming -- including hit primetime series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Everybody Loves Raymond," as well as the Sunday, Feb. 1 broadcast of Super Bowl XXXVIII -- in the coming weeks. - Hitachi's first HDTV graphics camera among product highlights
Hitachi Denshi America will show a dockable DVD-RAM recorder as part of its development of a line of tapeless recorders and camcorders at the NAB 2002 convention. The units will be designed around Hitachi's Emmy-Award winning DVD-RAM technology and will record MPEG2 video on to a DVD-RAM cartridge with a 60-minute capacity. The products will come bundled with software for editing the media within a laptop PC. The media may also be edited in the camera, as well as transferred to a server for further processing.
